Updates on Havalah

Update:

Some news this morning. Havalah's AST is 106 and ALT is 252. That is still really high, but lower than yesterday. Havalah had a liver biopsy yesterday and the results came back showing that there was no cholangitis, slight organ rejection, and a mild case of the flu. The combination of the flu and possible low prograff dosage levels may be the crux of why her numbers have been so high. They are now going to be holding off starting the super-steroid thymoglobulin for a couple of days to see how her levels respond. Also, Havalah is now in ISO and not allowed to leave her room to go play because of the flu... None of us are going to be happy about that.

Update:
hello! havalah's numbers are up a little bit today. ALT went from 106 to 154 and ALT went from 251 to 271. So we are continueing as we have been but if her numbers are up again tommorrow then we will be starting the thymoglobulin. Steve mis spoke when he called it a super-steroid, it is not a steroid at all, but rather a strongr immune suppresant. It wipes out your immune system and kills all of your t-cells. Havalah's bili is still normal and her alkaline phosphotase is elevated slightly at 337. My mom came yesterday and is staying until friday so I went home for awhile yesterday to get some stuff done, and tonight I am going to work. We will definately still be here over the weekend and visitors are welcome, as long as you don't have any colds/virus's etc.

Update:
Havalah's numbers went up again today. her ALT was 391 and AST was in the 200's. which is really high. Her cold/flu sympoms see worse today as well. She seems tired out and has increased discharge from her nose and more coughing. We just did a couple of chest xrays and if they look ok we will be starting the thymoglobulin today. I am a little concerned because her cold/flu symptoms are looking worse and we're going to be supressing her immune system even more dramatically, but the GI team thinks her liver is the more immediate concern, and they feel confident she has built up enough antibodies to her flu to be able to fight it off. I'm not happy to be starting the thymoglobulin but at this point it seems inevitable so I guess we might as well get started. Maybe it will be easier than I am expecting.

Update:

Havalah has been feeling pretty ill today/tonight. She is running a fever of 101.5 rectally and in general is not feeling like herself. She is pretty itchy overall as well. We had the nurses bring in a regular sized bed for tonight and Kristen plans to sleep next to Havalah.

Update:

Oh also I forgot to add that she did not start the Thymoglobulin treatment today because of the fever. They're going to be putting her on 2 antibiotics instead that would cover a broad range of possible infection.
